About the institute and research infrastructure
At VIB it's our mission to conduct pioneering research in life sciences to gain a better understanding of the mechanisms of life and to translate our research findings into products and solutions that benefit society. We believe that breakthrough research in the molecular mechanisms of life will lead to a better quality of life, economic growth, and sustainable societal well-being.
Flanders BioImaging (FBI https://www.flandersbioimaging.org/) is an interuniversity consortium dedicated to biomedical imaging and advanced light microscopy, that was set up to integrate, optimize, rationalize and coordinate available imaging infrastructure in Flanders, facilitating access to external users.
VIB is looking for a motivated and knowledgeable imaging data steward. We plan to build a service for storing, sharing, and analyzing image data. You will engage with the VIB’s imaging technology platforms and interface with other imaging resources at Flemish universities in the framework of Flanders BioImaging. Applications include biomedical imaging, common microscopy application including confocal, light sheet, and other advanced applications, as well as spatial omics technologies such as multiplexed (Fluorescent In Situ Hybridization (FISH), multiplexed proteomic and sequencing technologies.
We strive to define an environment where platforms and their users can work together with projects involving image data and identify the requirements for submission to long-term data repositories. You will work in a team of researchers and engineers to help shape the institutional as well as Flemish data infrastructure in imaging. Our institute greatly values diverse standpoints and promotes an inclusive environment in which everyone is respected.
Your role will be central to the new institutional and regional data initiatives connecting services for life science data from Flanders and internationally. Future service also includes collaboration with international partners, especially in matters concerning metadata and curation, and regarding FAIR and open science in general.
