Description

VIB is an entrepreneurial non-profit research institute, with a clear focus on ground-breaking strategic basic research in life sciences and operates in close partnership with the five universities in Flanders – Ghent University, KU Leuven, University of Antwerp, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and Hasselt University.

To reinforce our IT team, the Flemish Institute for Biotechnology VIB in Zwijnaarde is looking for an IT system administrator/engineer. You will be part of the IT team of VIB, which maintains the network backbone, data center with physical and virtual servers, and storage array as well as user services and applications and end-user computers. Together with other team members, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving our centralized IT infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Installing, maintaining, upgrading, and optimizing the network infrastructure to ensure a robust and secure environment
  • Designing custom infrastructure solutions for our scientists
  • Maintaining and optimizing our virtualized environments
  • Proactively contribute to the improvement of the quality of the services and infrastructure

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science and/or equivalent through demonstrated relevant
  • Experience as a system- and/or network administrator
  • You have a broad knowledge of IT infrastructure
  • Experience in administrating a (complex) network
  • You are motivated to help improve the infrastructure according to best practices and follow the latest innovations
  • You have experience in using Linux environments.
  • You know when to use windows, Linux and Unix.
  • You have excellent knowledge of at least 3 from the following: Cisco, radius networks, Active Directory, VMWare, scripting/automation, network security, mail relay, firewall, OpenStack
  • You are communicative and can work independently in a team context
  • Experience with Office365, Azure ad, and azure virtualization is an asset
  • Experience with scripting and continuous integration is a plus
  • You have a good knowledge of written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of written and spoken Dutch is an asset
