Description
The VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research is part of the VIB Life Sciences Institute and is embedded within the University of Leuven, which ranks among the world’s top 50 universities. At our Center, 300 researchers study the basic mechanisms of the central nervous system and related diseases.
The Vanderhaeghen Lab is looking for a full-time, highly motivated, and dedicated research technician. Our research team works on brain development and disease, combining human stem cell technology and mouse models. The candidate will get the opportunity to train and work with a variety of experimental systems, from molecular to cellular biology to in vivo work.

Position
In this position the focus is on:
- independently perform cell culture experimental work and molecular biology
- independently perform in vivo mouse experimental work and apply histological techniques
In addition, the position is jointly responsible for the close monitoring of safety, health, and environmental aspects in the lab. The introduction of these regulations to new employees is also part of the job description.
Finally, the function is also responsible for performing various general laboratory tasks such as general maintenance, replenishing consumables, and reordering materials and reagents.
Profile
- You possess a degree in Biomedical or Biological Sciences (Professional Bachelor/Master/Engineer) or equivalent.
- A FELASA B license for animal work is an advantage.
- Experience with cell culture, molecular biology, and/or histology is an asset.
- Experience in in vivo mouse experimental work is an asset
- Experience in microscopy techniques and the ability to apply these techniques independently is an asset.
- Experience with safety, health, and environmental regulation within KU Leuven is a plus.
- You must be meticulous, proactive, independent, and self-motivated.
- You are eager to expand your skills in new technologies.
- You like to work in a team, and you are passionate about science.
- You are fluent in written and spoken English.

Het Vanderhaeghen Lab is op zoek naar een fulltime, zeer gemotiveerde en toegewijde laboratoriumtechnoloog. Het onderzoeksteam onderzoekt ontwikkelings- en ziekteprocessen in de hersenen, en is gespecialiseerd in stamcelbiologie. De kandidaat krijgt de kans om te werken met een breed gamma aan technologieën, van moleculaire en cellulaire biologie tot in vivo experimenten.

Positie
In deze functie ligt de focus op:
- zelfstandig uitvoeren van celkweekexperimenteel werk en moleculaire biologie
- zelfstandig uitvoeren van in vivo muisexperimenteel werk en toepassen van histologische technieken
Daarnaast is de functie medeverantwoordelijk voor de nauwe opvolging van veiligheid-, gezondheid- en milieuaspecten in het labo. Ook de introductie voor deze voorschriften aan nieuwe medewerkers behoort tot het takenpakket. Tenslotte staat de functie ook in voor het uitvoeren van verschillende algemene laboratoriumtaken zoals algemeen onderhoud, het aanvullen van gebruiksmaterialen en het bijbestellen van materialen en reagentia.
Profiel
- Minstens een diploma in biomedische of biologische wetenschappen (Professionele Bachelor/Master/Ingenieur) of gelijkaardig.
- Een FELASA B certificaat voor dierproeven is een meerwaarde.
- Ervaring met moleculaire biologie, histologie, en/of celkweek is een meerwaarde.
- Praktijkervaring in in-vivo muisexperimenteel werk is een plus.
- Praktijkervaring in microscopietechnieken en deze zelfstandig toe te passen is een meerwaarde.
- Ervaring met veiligheids-, gezondheids- en milieuregelgeving binnen de KU Leuven is een groot pluspunt.
- Je gaat nauwgezet, proactief, zelfstandig en gemotiveerd aan het werk.
- Je wil graag nieuwe technieken en vaardigheden leren.
- Je werkt graag in team verband, hebt een passie voor wetenschap.
- Je spreekt en schrijft vlot Engels.
