Leuven, Belgium l Deadline to apply: 30 April 2026
About us
The VIB–KU Leuven Center for Cancer Biology (CCB) is a leading research institute focused on understanding cancer biology and developing innovative therapies. The Functional Genomics Expertise Center provides advanced genome editing, CRISPR screening, and functional genomics support to research groups across CCB.
We are seeking a molecular biologist with expertise in functional genomics to support the development and dissemination of CRISPR technologies, guide and support genome‑editing and screening projects, and collaborate with computational colleagues on multi‑omics data integration and analysis. You will also work with AI experts to help implement predictive models that improve guide design and functional genomics workflows.
You will join an expanding team working closely with the Laboratory for Functional Genomics and Gene Regulation (Prof. Olaf Klingbeil), CCB Expertise Centers, and VIB Core Facilities.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver training and workshops on CRISPR technologies, genome‑editing design, and functional screening workflows.
- Support CCB groups in designing, executing, and interpreting functional genomics and CRISPR‑based experiments.
- Collaborate with computational biologists to integrate CRISPR screens with transcriptomic, epigenomic, and spatial datasets.
- Contribute experimental insight to the development and maintenance of analysis pipelines.
- Partner with AI/ML experts to implement predictive tools supporting guide design and perturbation strategies.
Your profile
- PhD or equivalent experience in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, or a related life‑science discipline.
- Hands‑on experience with the design, cloning, and QC of complex vector libraries (e.g., CRISPR, barcoded, or pooled screening libraries).
- Practical experience with CRISPR genome editing and/or functional genomics screening approaches (pooled or arrayed).
- Familiarity with NGS library preparation, sequencing workflows, and basic data interpretation, with a willingness to collaborate closely with bioinformaticians.
- Strong communication skills and enthusiasm for training, supporting, and interacting with researchers across multiple groups.
- Interest in technology development, optimization, and continuous learning in a rapidly evolving field.
- Desirable: experience with multi‑omics datasets, single‑cell or spatial technologies, or basic scripting skills (R/Python).
Our offer
- Access to cutting‑edge functional genomics technologies and unique datasets.
- A collaborative, international environment within VIB and KU Leuven.
- Strong support for personal and professional development.
- Competitive salary and benefits.
- Full‑time, indefinite contract with flexible working arrangements.
