About the Center/Lab

At CMB, the focus lies on the development of new and innovative molecular tools and technologies to address human health problems. An emerging and fascinating research theme is the development and production of new biopharmaceuticals and vaccines. CMB researchers are working on new applications in tuberculosis research, cancer treatment and antiviral immunity, among others. Research at CMB pushes the boundaries of biomolecular/bioinformatics research and engineering. We also translate our new technologies and insights into widely applicable research tools, vaccines, diagnostics and pharmaceuticals.

Job Description

You will be responsible for and the main point of contact for first-line ICT support in the VIB-UGent Center for Medical Biotechnology, and work together with two other members of our ICT Support Team.

Your tasks will, amongst others, include:

  • Basic, routine software profiling and troubleshooting, installing and supporting software and licenses, and firewall and encryption configuration on both Windows and MacOS operating systems.
  • Diagnosis and, where possible, resolution of hardware issues on both laptop and desktop computers.
  • Inventory of ICT assets.
  • Procurement of end-user ICT assets.
  • Updating and troubleshooting IT infrastructure (audio/video) in different meeting rooms.
  • Providing printer support and troubleshooting.
  • Follow-up and logging of incidents to the ICT infrastructure.

Profile

Essential

We are looking for a new colleague with the following profile:

  • Interest in and, by high preference, experience with Linux and Unix-based operating systems and associated environments.
  • Knowledge of scripting in bash and/or PowerShell. Knowledge of other scripting or programming languages is considered an added value.
  • Ability to create concise and clear documentation for internal usage.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols and basic infrastructure: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, WiFi.
  • An open-source software mindset or inclination is valued.
  • Focus on, and any knowledge of, cyber-security and zero trust is desirable.

Key personal characteristics 

  • Team player, communicative, very good people skills
  • Ability to engage constructively and respectfully with end-users.
  • Language skills: knowledge of English is required, knowledge of Dutch is an added value.

We offer

The position will be filled half-time (50%) and we offer a first contract of one year, with a possible extension.
